Hike: Sentinel Pass

sentinelpass_11

The hike to Sentinel pass starts right next to Moraine lake near Lake Louise. It is one of the best I’ve done and incredibly rewarding. The hike is about 13 km round trip and starts out with a series of switchbacks up into larch valley. Once you’re in the valley things are much easier and you can enjoy spectacular views of Mount Eiffel to the east, Mount Temple to the West, Fay glacier to the south and Sentinel Pass to the North. Once through the valley, a couple of small lakes rest quietly in the shadows of the mountains and you’re presented with another set of rocky switchbacks that takes you to the “summit” of sentinel pass. Once at the top you can look back to the larch valley you hiked through in the south, with paradise valley to the north. Definitely worth it. As always, please stay on the trails!
