Visited the seaside village of Staithes in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. James Cook (yes the Captain) was once a grocer’s apprentice at William Sanderson’s shop in Staithes, and later moved to Whitby to join the Royal Navy. The sea claimed the grocery store but apparently remnants of the actual store live on in “Captain Cook’s Cottage”. Who doesn’t like a good story 🙂 This coastline is of course famous for fossils from the Jurassic. Loads of ammonites can be found in the area.
