The ESA’s Mars Express captured river-like topography on Mars. The resemblance to earth rivers is striking. It includes tributaries and stretches for 1500km, and is 7km wide and 300m deep in some points. What’s more there seems to elevates areas that could indicate that glaciers used to be around. I think that’s to ofar-fetched because glaciers always leave much more tell-tale signs behind in the rock and landscape it moves over. But I think it’s definitely an ancient riverbed. Scientists ballpark this between 1.8 to 3.5 billion years ago. It’s definitely interesting pictures though. I should add that this was found in the soocalled Reull Vallis region on Mars. [via ESA]
